Isaiah 19:24

In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, even a blessing in the midst of the land:

Isaiah 19:24 (KJV)

The book of Isaiah is a prophetic book in the Old Testament. The prophet Isaiah received messages from God concerning various nations, including Israel, Egypt, and Assyria. Isaiah 19 is a chapter that specifically addresses Egypt and its future relationship with Israel.

The phrase “in that day” refers to a future time, a specific period of fulfillment that the prophet is speaking about. It often signifies a future messianic era or a time of restoration and redemption. This verse speaks of a future scenario where Israel, Egypt, and Assyria will be united. The mention of Israel being “the third” suggests that it will be in close relationship and cooperation with Egypt and Assyria. This prophecy indicates a significant transformation of the relationships between these nations, which historically experienced conflict and animosity.

This verse portrays Israel as a blessing in the midst of the land. This means that Israel will be a source of blessing and favour to the surrounding nations, including Egypt and Assyria. Instead of conflict and division, unity and blessing will prevail. The unity among Israel, Egypt, and Assyria suggests a broader message of reconciliation, peace, and the redemptive work of God among the nations. Israel represents God’s chosen people and the fulfilment of His covenant promises.

The prophecy points to a time when national conflicts are resolved and God’s blessing extends to all nations, fulfilling the promise that all peoples of the earth would be blessed through Abraham’s seed. The Gospel of peace was to go out from Israel, making Israel a means of uniting the Gentiles. This unity is a sign of God’s redemptive work, breaking down the middle wall of partition between Jew and Gentile.

The fulfilment of this prophecy is yet to come. While there have been historical instances of Israel, Egypt, and Assyria experiencing temporary alliances or cooperation, the complete realisation of this prophecy is generally understood as part of the future millennial reign of Christ, a time of peace and harmony. This verse reminds us that God’s ultimate plan is for reconciliation and peace among nations, and it underscores the centrality of Israel in God’s redemptive purposes.

Isaiah 19:24 speaks of a future time when Israel will be united with Egypt and Assyria, serving as a blessing in the midst of the land. It conveys a message of reconciliation, peace, and God’s redemptive work among the nations.
