Listen to this article

“For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.”

Context:Isaiah 37 recounts the story of King Hezekiah and the Assyrian invasion of Judah. The Assyrian king, Sennacherib, sent his representative to deliver a message mocking Hezekiah and threatening the people of Jerusalem. Hezekiah sought the Lord’s intervention through the prophet Isaiah. In response to Hezekiah’s prayer, God promised deliverance and reassured the king of His faithfulness.

Deliverance and Preservation:In Isaiah 37:32, God declares that a remnant will go forth from Jerusalem, and those who escape from Mount Zion will be saved. Here, the remnant refers to a faithful group of people who would survive the impending destruction and exile. Despite the threat of the Assyrian army, God assures His people that He will preserve a remnant for Himself.

Divine Intervention:The verse highlights that it is the zeal of the Lord of hosts that will bring about this deliverance. “Zeal” refers to God’s passionate and fervent commitment to His people’s well-being and His own purposes. It emphasizes God’s active involvement in ensuring the survival of a faithful remnant.

  • God’s Faithfulness:Isaiah 37:32 underscores God’s faithfulness to His covenant promises. Even in the face of impending danger, God assures the people that He will not abandon them completely but will preserve a remnant.
  • Trusting in God’s Protection:This verse encourages believers to put their trust in God’s protection during times of adversity. Despite the overwhelming odds, God is capable of delivering His people from their enemies.
  • The Remnant’s Role:The concept of the remnant is significant throughout the Bible. It represents a faithful minority chosen by God to fulfill His purposes. This verse reminds us that God can accomplish great things through a faithful remnant, even in challenging circumstances.

Application:As believers, we can draw encouragement from this passage. It reminds us that God is with us in times of trouble, and He will preserve and protect His faithful ones. We can trust in God’s faithfulness and seek His intervention in our lives, knowing that His zeal is working for our good and His purposes.
