Isaiah 62:8

Posted on 18 May at 15:05

“The Lord hath sworn by his right hand, and by the arm of his strength, Surely I will no more give thy corn to be meat for thine enemies; and the sons of the stranger shall not drink thy wine, for the which thou hast laboured.”

Isaiah 62:8 is part of a passage where the prophet Isaiah brings forth a message of hope and restoration to the people of Israel. It speaks of God’s faithfulness to His people and His promise to protect and bless them.

In this verse, the Lord is depicted as taking an oath by His right hand and the arm of His strength. This oath signifies the solemnity and certainty of His promise. God declares that He will no longer allow the enemies of His people to consume the fruits of their labor. The “corn” mentioned here represents the harvest and sustenance of the Israelites, and the “meat” signifies the produce or sustenance given to their adversaries.

The reference to the “sons of the stranger” alludes to foreign nations or peoples who would previously invade and oppress Israel, seizing their crops and enjoying the fruits of their labor. God promises that this will no longer be the case. The enemies of Israel will no longer partake in the blessings that rightfully belong to His chosen people.

This verse demonstrates God’s protective and providential nature toward His people. It highlights His commitment to bless and preserve them, ensuring that their toil and labor will no longer benefit their enemies. Instead, God will safeguard their crops and ensure that the fruits of their labor remain for their own sustenance and well-being.

Overall, Isaiah 62:8 conveys a powerful message of God’s faithfulness, protection, and provision for His people. It reflects His desire to bless and restore His chosen ones, promising to shield them from their enemies and secure the fruits of their labor for their own benefit.
