Jeremiah 2:8

Context:The book of Jeremiah is a prophetic book in the Old Testament, attributed to the prophet Jeremiah. It contains a collection of prophecies, laments, and messages of judgment and hope. Transgression and False Prophecy:The pastors, or shepherds, who were meant to care for and protect God’s people, were found to be transgressing against God. They were not leading the people according to God’s commands and instead were leading them astray. Additionally, the prophets were prophesying by Baal, a false god, and following after things that did not bring any real benefit or profit to the people.

It highlights the importance of seeking the Lord, knowing Him intimately, and faithfully teaching and leading others according to His Word. It warns against complacency, false teachings, and chasing after things that do not have eternal value.
