Jeremiah 12:15
And it shall come to passe after that I haue plucked them out, I will returne, and haue compassion on them, and will bring againe euery man to his heritage, and euery man to his land. Jeremiah 12:15 (KJV)
The book of Jeremiah is a prophetic book in the Old Testament, containing the prophecies and messages given by the prophet Jeremiah to the people of Judah during a time of great spiritual and moral decline. This particular verse is presented as part of a passage where Jeremiah is lamenting the prosperity of the wicked and questioning why they seem to prosper while the righteous suffer. (Note: the verse quoted is not found in Jeremiah 12:15 in the King James Version; the citation appears to be inaccurate.)
In this verse, God is speaking through Jeremiah and expressing that after He has “plucked out” the wicked, He will return and have compassion on the people of Judah. The phrase “plucking out” refers to the judgment and punishment that would come upon the wicked nations that were oppressing Judah, and it signifies divine judgment against these nations.
Jeremiah 12:14‑17 states that the LORD will pluck out the nations that touch the inheritance of Israel and then, after that, will return, have compassion, and bring every man back to his heritage and land. The promise of compassion and restoration applies conditionally to these nations if they turn to God, as indicated in verse 16, which speaks of learning the ways of God’s people and swearing by His name. The historical context focuses on Judah’s exile and the judgment on surrounding nations, underscoring God’s justice and mercy.
For believers today, the passage illustrates that God’s discipline is followed by restoration for those who turn to Him. It reminds us that God sees oppression and injustice, and that restoration often follows a time of discipline or testing. We are encouraged to trust in God’s timing and purposes, knowing that His compassion and faithfulness will lead us to our place of blessing and inheritance.
