Ezekiel 11:2

Posted on 18 May at 14:59
Listen to this article

“Ezekiel 11:2 (KJV): Then said he unto me, Son of man, these are the men that devise mischief, and give wicked counsel in this city.”

Context:The book of Ezekiel is a prophetic book in the Old Testament. It contains prophecies and visions given to the prophet Ezekiel, who was taken captive to Babylon during the exile of the Israelites. In this particular verse, Ezekiel is receiving a vision and is addressed as the “Son of man,” which is a term God frequently used to refer to him.

Meaning and Significance:

In Ezekiel 11:2, God describes certain individuals who are responsible for devising mischief and giving wicked counsel in the city. The city mentioned here is Jerusalem, specifically during the time of the Babylonian captivity.

Identification of the wicked:The verse indicates that there are people within the city of Jerusalem who are actively plotting and advising evil deeds. These individuals have likely strayed from God’s commands and are involved in corrupt practices. It is important to note that their actions are in direct opposition to God’s will.

Consequences of their actions:The presence of such wicked individuals has a negative impact on the community and the spiritual state of the city. Their wicked counsel and mischief contribute to the overall decline of Jerusalem. These actions further highlight the spiritual corruption that had infiltrated the city and led to God’s judgment upon it.

God’s awareness and warning:By revealing these individuals to Ezekiel, God demonstrates His omniscience and awareness of everything happening within the city. It is also a warning to the people about the consequences of their actions and the need for repentance and turning back to God.

Application:

  • Awareness of evil influences:We should be discerning and cautious about the counsel and influences we allow into our lives. Not everyone who offers advice has our best interests at heart. We must seek wisdom from God and His Word and be aware of those who may lead us astray.
  • Consequences of wicked actions:The verse reminds us that the choices we make can have a significant impact on our lives and those around us. We should strive to live in accordance with God’s commands, avoiding wickedness and the counsel of the ungodly.
  • God’s omniscience and justice:The passage reassures us that God is fully aware of everything happening in our lives. He sees both the righteous and the wicked and will ultimately bring justice. Therefore, we can trust in His wisdom and timing, knowing that He will deal justly with all things.

In conclusion, Ezekiel 11:2 serves as a reminder of the presence of wickedness in the world and the need to stay vigilant against its influence. It also highlights God’s awareness of human actions and the importance of aligning ourselves with His will.
