Ezekiel 12:13

“My net also will I spread upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare: and I will bring him to Babylon to the land of the Chaldeans; yet shall he not see it, though he shall die there.”

Context:Ezekiel was a prophet who ministered to the exiles from Judah in Babylon. He delivered messages from God to the people, warning them of the impending judgment due to their disobedience and idolatry.

Symbolic Actions:In the preceding verses, God instructed Ezekiel to act out a prophecy by packing his bags and digging through a wall to escape. This represented the futile attempts of the people to escape the judgment of God. In verse 12, Ezekiel’s action of covering his face and going into exile symbolized the impending capture and exile of the king, Zedekiah.

Divine Judgment:Ezekiel 12:13 speaks of God’s judgment upon Zedekiah, the last king of Judah. God declared that He would spread His net and capture Zedekiah in His snare. This referred to the Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem, where Zedekiah was indeed captured and taken to Babylon.

The Land of the Chaldeans:Zedekiah was brought to Babylon, specifically to the land of the Chaldeans. This emphasizes the fulfilment of God’s prophecy and the exile of the king to the very place that he had sought to avoid.

A Death in Babylon:The verse concludes by stating that Zedekiah would die in Babylon. This prophecy was fulfilled when Zedekiah’s sons were killed before his eyes, and then his own eyes were blinded. He was taken captive to Babylon, where he spent the remainder of his life.

  • Abishai:is not mentioned in the given text, however the text does mention the king Zedekiah and the prophet Ezekiel.
