Ezekiel 16:38

Listen to this article

“And I will judge thee, as women that break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will give thee blood in fury and jealousy.”

Context:In Ezekiel 16, the prophet is delivering a message from God to the people of Jerusalem, using a vivid metaphor of an abandoned infant who grows up to become a beautiful woman. Through this metaphor, God describes His relationship with Jerusalem, highlighting their unfaithfulness and idolatry.

In verse 38, God declares that He will judge Jerusalem in a manner similar to women who commit adultery and shed blood. This imagery emphasizes the severity of Jerusalem’s unfaithfulness and idolatry, comparing it to the grave sins of adultery and murder.

God’s judgment is described as giving Jerusalem “blood in fury and jealousy.” This phrase suggests that God’s anger will be poured out upon Jerusalem, bringing about destruction and punishment for their unfaithfulness. It signifies the divine wrath that will be unleashed as a result of their sinful actions.

The use of such strong language and vivid imagery in this verse serves to underscore the seriousness of Jerusalem’s spiritual unfaithfulness and idolatry. It serves as a warning and a call to repentance, urging the people to turn back to God and forsake their sinful ways before it is too late.

Overall, Ezekiel 16:38 conveys the message that God will judge Jerusalem for their unfaithfulness and idolatry, employing strong language and imagery to emphasize the severity of their actions and the impending divine wrath.
