Ezekiel 20:6

Listen to this article

“In the day that I lifted up mine hand unto them, to bring them forth of the land of Egypt into a land that I had espied for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands.”

Context:The book of Ezekiel is a prophetic book in the Old Testament, and this verse is part of a larger passage where the Lord speaks through the prophet Ezekiel to address the rebellious and idolatrous nature of the Israelites. The passage recounts the history of God’s dealings with Israel from their time in Egypt to their entry into the Promised Land.

The Exodus:The verse begins with a reference to the day when God “lifted up His hand” to bring the Israelites out of the land of Egypt. This is a significant event in the history of Israel and refers to the Exodus, when God miraculously delivered the Israelites from slavery in Egypt through various signs and wonders.

God’s intention:God declares that He had spied out a land for the Israelites, a land flowing with milk and honey. This land refers to the Promised Land, Canaan, which God had prepared for His people. The phrase “flowing with milk and honey” is often used to describe the fertility and abundance of the land, indicating its richness and blessings.

The glory of all lands:God describes the Promised Land as the “glory of all lands.” This phrase emphasizes the exceptional nature of the land, highlighting its superiority and desirability compared to other regions. It signifies that the Promised Land was a place of great blessing, prosperity, and divine favour.

Spiritual significance:Beyond its literal meaning, this verse holds spiritual significance. The Promised Land can also represent the blessings and abundance that God desires to give His people when they walk in obedience to Him. It symbolises the spiritual inheritance and blessings that believers can experience when they trust and follow God’s leading.

Application:As believers, we can learn from the Israelites’ experience. Just as God had a plan and purpose for them, He also has a plan and purpose for our lives. He desires to lead us into places of abundance and blessing, both spiritually and in various aspects of our lives. However, it is essential for us to trust and obey Him, just as the Israelites were called to do.

In conclusion, Ezekiel 20:6 reminds us of God’s faithfulness, His desire to bless His people, and His willingness to lead them into places of abundance and blessing. It encourages us to trust and obey God’s guidance, knowing that He has a plan and purpose for our lives.
