Ezekiel 32:7

Posted on 18 May at 14:58

“And when I shall put thee out, I will cover the heaven, and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light.”

Certainly! Here is a Bible study on Ezekiel 32:7 (KJV) says, "And when I shall put thee out, I will cover the heaven, and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light."

Context:To better understand this verse, it’s important to consider the context. In the book of Ezekiel, the prophet receives a series of prophecies concerning various nations, including Egypt. In Ezekiel 32, the prophet delivers a lamentation for Egypt, describing its impending judgment and downfall.

Symbolic Language:The verse uses symbolic language to describe the judgment that will come upon Egypt. The darkening of the heavens, stars, sun, and moon is a powerful metaphor for the loss of glory, power, and prosperity. In ancient Near Eastern cultures, celestial disturbances were often associated with divine judgment and the disruption of order.

Divine Judgment:The darkening of the celestial bodies signifies a severe judgment that will befall Egypt. It highlights the magnitude and significance of the impending calamity. This language of celestial disturbance is not meant to be taken literally but rather as a vivid depiction of the devastation and downfall that will come upon Egypt.

Historical Fulfillment:It is essential to recognize that this prophecy was given in the context of Ezekiel’s time, and its fulfilment is understood in historical terms. Scholars believe that this prophecy might refer to the fall of Egypt’s power and influence in the region, possibly during the conquest of Egypt by the Babylonians in the 6th century BCE.

Spiritual Lessons:While this prophecy was specific to ancient Egypt, there are spiritual lessons we can glean from it. It serves as a reminder that God is sovereign and judges nations based on their actions. It also emphasises the importance of living in alignment with God’s principles to avoid judgment and destruction.

  • Application:As believers, we can apply this passage by reflecting on our own lives. It encourages us to examine our actions and attitudes, ensuring that we are living in obedience to God’s commands. We should strive to maintain righteousness, humility, and a heart that seeks after God, knowing that He is the ultimate judge of all.

Remember to always read and interpret the Bible in its entirety, considering the broader context and seeking guidance from trusted biblical resources and teachers.
