Seuen dayes shalt thou prepare euery day a goate for a sinne offering: they shall also prepare a yong bullocke, and a ramme out of the flocke, without blemish. Ezekiel 43:25 (KJV)

This verse appears within the context of instructions for the consecration of the altar in the future temple described in Ezekiel’s prophecy. The book of Ezekiel is a prophetic book in the Old Testament, and it records the visions and prophecies given to the prophet Ezekiel during the Babylonian exile. In the Old Testament sacrificial system, a sin offering was made to atone for sin, typically involving an unblemished animal symbolizing purity. The repetition of the phrase “seven days” emphasises the importance of thorough preparation and dedication to the sin offering. The seven‑day period of preparation emphasizes thorough consecration and dedication to the ritual. In this verse, God commands the Israelites to prepare a goat for a sin offering each day as part of a seven‑day period. Additionally, they are to prepare a young bull and a ram without any blemish. These sacrificial animals were to be offered to God as a way of seeking His forgiveness and cleansing from sin. These rituals pointed forward to Christ’s ultimate sacrifice, where He, being without blemish, offered Himself as the perfect atonement for sin. The sin offerings mentioned in this verse point to the need for repentance and the atonement for sin. The sacrificial system in the Old Testament was a foreshadowing of the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus Christ would make on the cross to redeem humanity from sin. As believers today, we are called to acknowledge our sins, repent, and seek forgiveness through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who was without blemish and offered Himself as the perfect atoning sacrifice for our sins. The emphasis on seven days of preparation highlights the importance of thoroughness, discipline, and dedication in our approach to seeking forgiveness and reconciliation with God. It reminds us that true repentance involves a sincere heart, genuine remorse for our sins, and a commitment to turn away from them. In summary, Ezekiel 43:25 instructs the Israelites to prepare a sin offering, consisting of a goat, a young bull, and a ram without blemish, as part of a seven‑day consecration period.
