Ezekiel 44:5

Posted on 18 May at 14:57

“Ezekiel 44:5 (KJV): And the LORD said unto me, Son of man, mark well, and behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears all that I say unto thee concerning all the ordinances of the house of the LORD and all the laws thereof; and mark well the entering in of the house, with every going forth of the sanctuary.”

Ezekiel was a prophet who received visions and messages from the Lord during the Babylonian exile. In this particular verse, God addresses Ezekiel as “Son of man,” a term He often used to emphasize Ezekiel’s human nature and his role as a representative of the people. Let’s break down the verse to gain a deeper understanding:

The Lord’s instruction:God instructs Ezekiel to pay close attention, observe carefully with his eyes, and listen attentively with his ears to everything God is about to say. This emphasizes the importance of Ezekiel’s role as a prophet and messenger.

Concerning all the ordinances of the house of the Lord and all the laws thereof:God wants Ezekiel to understand and communicate His instructions and commands regarding the ordinances and laws of the house of the Lord. This indicates that Ezekiel has a responsibility to teach and guide the people in matters relating to worship and obedience to God’s commands.

Mark well the entering in of the house, with every going forth of the sanctuary:Ezekiel is specifically instructed to pay close attention to the entrances and exits of the temple or sanctuary. This implies that God wants Ezekiel to closely observe the people who enter and leave the holy place, suggesting a focus on the purity and holiness of those who approach Him.

Overall, this verse highlights Ezekiel’s role as a prophet, receiving instructions from God and conveying them to the people. It also emphasises the importance of careful observation, both in understanding and teaching the ordinances and laws of the house of the Lord, as well as in ensuring the sanctity of the sanctuary and the people who approach it.

By studying this verse, we can learn about the importance of being attentive to God’s instructions, faithfully teaching His word, and upholding the sanctity of worship.
