Ezekiel 44:15

Posted on 18 May at 11:29

But the priests the Leuites, the sonnes of Zadok, that kept the charge of my sanctuarie, when the children of Israel went astray from me, they shall come neere to me to minister vnto me, and they shall stand before me to offer vnto me the fat and the blood, saith the Lord God. Ezekiel 44:15 (KJV)

The book of Ezekiel is a prophetic book that records the visions and messages of the prophet Ezekiel during the Babylonian captivity. In this specific verse, Ezekiel is given a vision of the future restoration of the temple and worship of God.

The priests in the Old Testament were descendants of Aaron from the tribe of Levi. They were responsible for the religious duties and ceremonies in the temple, including offering sacrifices and interceding on behalf of the people before God.

Zadok was a high priest during the reign of King David and King Solomon. The reference to the sons of Zadok indicates a specific line of priests who were known for their faithfulness and obedience to God.

The verse states that the sons of Zadok kept the charge of God’s sanctuary when the children of Israel went astray from Him. This implies that during times of spiritual decline and apostasy, the sons of Zadok remained faithful to God and continued to fulfill their priestly duties.

As a result of their faithfulness, the sons of Zadok are granted a special privilege. They are allowed to come near to God to minister to Him and to stand before Him. This indicates a close and intimate relationship with God, symbolising their acceptance and favour in His sight.

The verse mentions that the sons of Zadok would offer the fat and the blood to God. In the Old Testament sacrificial system, the fat and the blood were considered the most valuable parts of the animal, representing the best portion of the offering. This emphasises the importance of giving God our best in worship and service.

Remember that studying the Bible in its entirety and considering the surrounding verses and context is crucial for a comprehensive understanding of any particular verse.
