Ezekiel 45:3

Posted on 18 May at 14:57
Listen to this article

“And of this measure shalt thou measure the length of five and twenty thousand, and the breadth of ten thousand: and in it shall be the sanctuary and the most holy place.”

Context:The book of Ezekiel is a prophetic book in the Old Testament, written by the prophet Ezekiel during the time of Israel’s exile in Babylon. The book contains various prophecies, visions, and instructions given by God to the prophet. In Ezekiel 45, the prophet receives instructions regarding the allocation of land for the sanctuary and the prince.

Land Allocation:In this verse, God instructs Ezekiel to measure a specific portion of the land. The dimensions provided are twenty-five thousand cubits in length and ten thousand cubits in breadth. It is important to note that these measurements are symbolic and are not to be taken as literal physical dimensions. The purpose of the measurements is to allocate a specific portion of the land for the sanctuary and the most holy place.

The Sanctuary and the Most Holy Place:The verse states that within the measured area, there will be the sanctuary and the most holy place. In the Old Testament, the sanctuary was the central place of worship where the people offered sacrifices and approached God. The most holy place, also known as the Holy of Holies, was the innermost part of the sanctuary where the Ark of the Covenant was kept, and the presence of God dwelled.

Symbolic Meaning:The measurements and the allocation of land in this verse can be seen as symbolic of God’s presence and His desire to dwell among His people. The specific measurements indicate the sacredness and special nature of the area set apart for worship. It signifies that God is establishing a place for His sanctuary and His holy presence to reside among His people.

Application:While the immediate context of this verse relates to the specific instructions given to Ezekiel for the future temple, there are broader spiritual lessons we can derive from it. It reminds us of the importance of dedicating a special place and time for worship and seeking God’s presence. As believers, we can apply this by setting apart our hearts, minds, and physical spaces for God, creating an atmosphere where we can commune with Him and experience His presence.

  • In conclusion:Ezekiel 45:3 provides instructions to the prophet regarding the allocation of land for the sanctuary and the most holy place. It symbolizes God’s desire to dwell among His people and emphasizes the significance of dedicating specific spaces for worship and seeking His presence.
