Ezekiel 47:6

Listen to this article

And hee said vnto me, Sonne of man, hast thou seene this? Then hee brought me, and caused me to returne to the brinke of the riuer. Ezekiel 47:6 (KJV)

This verse is part of a prophetic vision that the prophet Ezekiel had regarding a future temple and a river flowing from it. In Ezekiel 47, the prophet sees a vision of a magnificent temple where water is flowing out from under the threshold. The water starts as a trickle and gradually becomes a mighty river. As the river flows, it brings life and fertility to the surrounding regions. It even transforms the Dead Sea, making it teem with fish.

This vision of the river represents the outpouring of God’s blessings, spiritual life, and abundance to the people. It symbolizes the restoration and renewal of the land and its inhabitants. The river signifies the work of the Holy Spirit and the life‑giving power of God’s presence in the midst of His people.

When the divine figure brings Ezekiel to the brink of the river, it is a significant moment of revelation and observation. It shows that God wants Ezekiel to witness the origin of this life‑giving river, emphasizing the source of these blessings. As a “Son of man,” a term God uses to address Ezekiel, he is called to witness and understand this divine revelation. Throughout the book of Ezekiel, God frequently addresses Ezekiel as “Son of man” to remind him of his humanity and dependence on God. By bringing Ezekiel to the brink of the river, God engages him in a personal experience, allowing him to witness and comprehend His work.

In a broader sense, this verse can also hold spiritual significance for believers today. It reminds us of our need to position ourselves at the brink of God’s blessings and to be attentive to His work in our lives. Just as Ezekiel was brought to the edge of the river to witness God’s mighty works, we should seek to be close to God, attentive to His leading, and open to experiencing His abundant blessings.
