Zechariah 6:9

“And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,”

Context:To better understand this verse, it’s essential to explore its context within the book of Zechariah. The book of Zechariah is one of the prophetic books of the Old Testament. Zechariah, the author, was a prophet who played a significant role in encouraging the Israelites during their return from exile in Babylon.

In Zechariah 6, the prophet receives a series of visions that contain symbolic messages and promises from the Lord. These visions are designed to provide encouragement and hope to the post-exilic community.

Now, let’s examine the verse itself. Zechariah 6:9 begins with the phrase, “And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying.” This phrase indicates that Zechariah is receiving a divine revelation from God. Throughout the book, Zechariah frequently mentions receiving messages from the Lord in the form of visions or direct communication.

The phrase “the word of the LORD” signifies that what follows is a message directly from God. In the context of this particular verse, it implies that God is about to reveal something significant to Zechariah and, subsequently, to the people.

Zechariah’s role as a prophet was to convey God’s messages to the people of Israel. Therefore, this verse serves as a preamble to the message that Zechariah is about to receive. It highlights the authority and divine source of the words that will follow.

It’s important to note that the subsequent verses in Zechariah 6:10-15 contain a message related to the crowning of Joshua, the high priest, with symbolic crowns. This message conveys a promise of future restoration and peace, as well as the coming of the Messiah, who would combine the roles of both king and priest.

Overall, Zechariah 6:9 sets the stage for the divine message that follows. It emphasizes the authority and importance of the words that God is about to speak through the prophet Zechariah. It reminds us of the divine source of the message and the significance of paying attention to what God is revealing to His people.

By studying the context and understanding the broader themes and messages of the book of Zechariah, we can gain a deeper appreciation for the significance of Zechariah 6:9 and its role within the larger narrative of God’s redemptive plan for His people.
