Matthew 20:7

Posted on 18 May at 14:50

“They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.”

Certainly! Let’s delve into Matthew 20:7 from the King James Version of the Bible. The verse you mentioned is part of a parable told by Jesus to illustrate a lesson about the kingdom of heaven. Here is the verse in context:

In this parable, Jesus tells the story of a landowner who goes out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. He agrees to pay them a denarius, which was a common wage for a day’s work. The landowner then goes out at different times throughout the day, hiring more laborers each time and promising to pay them “whatsoever is right.”

In verse 7, the landowner encounters a group of workers who had been standing idle in the marketplace. When asked why they were not working, they respond, “Because no man hath hired us.” In response, the landowner tells them to go into the vineyard as well, assuring them that they will receive a fair wage.

This verse highlights a significant aspect of God’s grace and generosity. It emphasizes that everyone has the opportunity to enter into the kingdom of heaven, regardless of their background or the time at which they come to faith. The parable teaches us that salvation is not limited to those who have followed God’s commandments from the beginning but is available to all who respond to God’s call, no matter how late in life they come to Him.

Furthermore, the verse also reveals God’s fairness and justice. When the landowner promises to pay the workers “whatsoever is right,” it shows that God rewards each person according to their labor and the time they have spent serving Him. His justice ensures that everyone will receive their due reward, regardless of how long they have been laboring in His service.
