Matthew 20:34

“But Jesus, moved with compassion, touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.”

In this chapter, Jesus tells the parable of the labourers in the vineyard, where he illustrates the Kingdom of Heaven. He emphasises that in His Kingdom, the first shall be last and the last shall be first. He also foretells His impending death and resurrection.

Jesus’ Compassion:The verse begins by stating that Jesus was “moved with compassion.” This phrase highlights the deep empathy and concern that Jesus had for those in need. Throughout His ministry, Jesus consistently demonstrated compassion for the suffering, the sick, and the marginalised. His compassion moved Him to act and bring healing and restoration to people’s lives.

Physical Healing:In this particular verse, Jesus touched the eyes of two blind men, and immediately, their eyes received sight. This miraculous act reveals Jesus’ power to heal and restore physical disabilities. It is a testament to His divine authority and shows that nothing is impossible for Him.

Symbolic Meaning:Beyond the physical healing, this verse also carries symbolic significance. Throughout the Bible, blindness is often used as a metaphor for spiritual blindness or ignorance. Response to Healing:Following their healing, the two blind men “followed him.” This response is indicative of the transformative power of encountering Jesus.
