Uerely I say vnto you, Wheresoeuer this Gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memoriall of her. Matthew 26:13 (KJV)

The passage records a woman who poured a costly ointment on Jesus’ head, an act that reveals the depth of her devotion and her willingness to give her very best to the Lord. Her gesture is not merely a cultural custom but a tangible expression of worship that reflects a heart fully surrendered to Christ.

Worship and Sacrifice: This act of anointing illustrates sacrificial worship. By offering something of great value without hesitation, the woman models the principle that true worship involves offering our finest to God, holding nothing back. Her example challenges believers to examine whether they are giving God their best in worship and service.

Recognizing Jesus’ Divinity: In highlighting the woman’s deed, Jesus affirms His own divine identity and the centrality of the gospel. He declares that wherever the gospel is proclaimed, the memory of this woman’s faithful act will be proclaimed as well. This underscores that the good news of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection is inseparable from a life of devoted worship.

Remembering and Testifying: Jesus predicts that the story of this woman will be recounted throughout the world as a memorial. The promise teaches the importance of preserving and sharing testimonies of faith. Her devotion becomes a living testimony that encourages others to honor and worship God with similar fervor.

Impact and Legacy: The narrative points to the lasting influence that a single act of worship can have. Our choices in worship and service can leave a legacy that inspires others to draw nearer to Christ. The woman’s example reminds believers that faithful deeds, however small they may seem, can echo through generations, shaping the faith of those who hear the gospel.
