Listen to this article

“And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.”

The Angel’s Message: In this verse, an angel speaks to the women who came to the tomb. The angel begins by addressing their fear and providing reassurance, saying, “Fear not ye.” The angel’s purpose is to calm their anxieties and prepare them for the remarkable news that follows.

Knowledge of their Intentions: The angel acknowledges that he knows the reason for the women’s visit. They sought Jesus, who had been crucified. This demonstrates the divine knowledge possessed by the angel, highlighting the omniscience and foreknowledge of God.

Significance of Jesus’ Crucifixion: By mentioning that the women were seeking Jesus, “which was crucified,” the angel affirms the reality of Jesus’ crucifixion. The crucifixion was a pivotal event in God’s plan of salvation, as Jesus willingly laid down His life to atone for the sins of humanity. The angel’s words acknowledge the sacrifice of Jesus and indicate that the women’s search for Him is not in vain.

The Context of Resurrection: It is crucial to understand that Matthew 28:5 is part of the larger narrative of Jesus’ resurrection. The angel’s statement serves as a prelude to the proclamation of Jesus’ victory over death and the subsequent encounter with the resurrected Christ.

Overall, Matthew 28:5 is a pivotal verse that sets the stage for the glorious news of Jesus’ resurrection. It acknowledges the women’s intent, comforts their fears, and affirms the reality of Jesus’ crucifixion, which makes His resurrection all the more remarkable and significant.
