Mark 4:22

Posted on 18 May at 14:48

“For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.”

This verse is part of a larger passage where Jesus is teaching a multitude by the sea. He uses parables to illustrate various spiritual truths. In this particular verse, Jesus is explaining the purpose of His teaching, emphasizing that nothing hidden will remain concealed forever, and everything that is kept secret will eventually come to light.

The verse can be understood in a broader context by considering the preceding verses. In Mark 4:21, Jesus tells the listeners, “Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?” This statement highlights the importance of sharing and proclaiming the truth openly rather than concealing it.

By saying, “For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested,” Jesus emphasizes that no secret or hidden thing will remain hidden forever. In the context of His teachings, Jesus is referring to the truths of the Kingdom of God. His teachings, which were initially shared with a smaller group of disciples and followers, would eventually be proclaimed openly and revealed to all.

Jesus continues, “neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.” Here, He clarifies that the purpose behind keeping things secret is not to keep them hidden indefinitely, but rather to eventually bring them into the light for all to know and understand.

This verse highlights the transparency and openness of God’s plan for humanity. It reassures believers that, even if some truths may not be fully understood or known at present, they will eventually be revealed. It also suggests that the teachings of Jesus were not intended to be kept secret but to be spread widely so that all may have the opportunity to receive and embrace them.
