Luke 5:15

Listen to this article

But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him, and great multitudes came together to heare, and to be healed by him of their infirmities. Luke 5:15 (KJV)

The passage records that a remarkable reputation for Jesus spread rapidly, and that large crowds gathered eagerly to listen to his teaching and to receive physical healing from his touch. The wording emphasizes both the fame that went abroad about him and the great multitudes that assembled, seeking relief from their sicknesses and infirmities.

It is noteworthy that some sources quote this wording while also stating that it does not appear in the King James Version of the Bible. The observation that the passage is sometimes cited yet is absent from the KJV highlights a textual awareness among readers. The statement, “The following passage, though sometimes cited, does not appear in the King James Version of the Bible,” directly addresses this discrepancy and reminds the reader that the exact phrasing may be found in other translations or manuscript traditions, but not in the KJV text itself.

Nevertheless, the core description remains clear: a fame about Jesus grew, and great multitudes came together, drawn by the promise of hearing his words and being healed of their infirmities. This concise account underscores the impact of his ministry on the people of that time, illustrating both the spread of his reputation and the tangible hope that many placed in his ability to heal. The passage, whether quoted from the KJV or noted as absent, conveys the same essential picture of a crowd eager for both spiritual instruction and physical restoration.
