Luke 7:23

Listen to this article

“And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.”

Context:This verse is part of a larger passage in which Jesus responds to a question from the disciples of John the Baptist. John had sent his disciples to Jesus to ask if He was the promised Messiah or if they should wait for someone else. Jesus responds by pointing to the miraculous works He is performing, and He instructs John’s disciples to report what they have seen and heard.

Now, let’s analyze Luke 7:23 in more detail:

The concept of being blessed:Jesus begins by declaring that the person who is not offended in Him is blessed. Being blessed in this context means experiencing God’s favour, approval, and spiritual well-being. It is a state of deep joy and contentment that comes from aligning with God’s will.

Not being offended in Jesus:To be “offended” in Jesus means to stumble or be caused to doubt or be displeased by Him. In other words, it refers to a lack of faith or a refusal to accept Jesus and His teachings due to various reasons, such as misunderstandings, doubts, or personal biases.

The verse implies that those who do not stumble over Jesus or become displeased with Him are blessed. It emphasises the importance of faith and acceptance of Jesus as the Messiah, even in the face of challenges, doubts, or worldly expectations.

This verse has a broader application beyond the immediate context of Jesus’ response to John’s disciples. It is a call to all believers throughout history to remain steadfast in their faith, regardless of the difficulties they encounter or the doubts they may face. It encourages believers to trust in Jesus, accept Him as Lord and Saviour, and not allow anything to cause them to stumble in their faith.

In summary, Luke 7:23 (KJV) reminds us that those who are not offended in Jesus, who choose to trust Him and not stumble in their faith, are blessed. It encourages believers to remain steadfast, even in challenging circumstances, and to wholeheartedly embrace Jesus as the Messiah.
