Luke 11:10

Posted on 18 May at 14:40

“For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”

Context:To understand this verse better, let’s look at its context. In Luke 11, Jesus teaches His disciples about prayer and encourages them to persistently ask, seek, and knock in their requests to God.

The Principle of Asking:Jesus starts by saying, “For everyone that asketh receiveth.” This principle emphasises the importance of approaching God with our needs and desires. God invites us to come to Him in prayer, expressing our requests and seeking His provision.

The Principle of Seeking:Jesus continues, “And he that seeketh findeth.” Seeking goes beyond asking. It implies an active pursuit of God’s will and purpose in our lives. As we seek God wholeheartedly, we will find Him and His guidance along our journey.

The Principle of Knocking:Jesus adds, “And to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” Knocking represents persistence and determination. It reflects our willingness to persevere in prayer and continue seeking God’s will even when faced with challenges. God promises that the door will be opened to those who persistently seek Him.

Faith and Trust:Throughout this verse, Jesus encourages His disciples to have faith and trust in God’s goodness and willingness to answer their prayers. He assures them that God hears and responds to those who come to Him with genuine hearts.

Application:As believers, this verse teaches us several important lessons:

  • We are invited to bring our requests and needs to God in prayer, knowing that He hears and answers us.
  • We should actively seek God’s will and purpose for our lives, pursuing a deeper relationship with Him.
  • We should persistently and confidently approach God, trusting that He will open doors and provide for our needs according to His perfect plan.
  • Additional Scriptures:To gain a fuller understanding of the importance of asking, seeking, and knocking, consider these additional passages:
  • Matthew 7:7-8: Jesus’ teaching on asking, seeking, and knocking.
  • Jeremiah 29:12-13: God’s promise to be found when we seek Him with all our hearts.
  • James 1:5-7: Encouragement to ask God for wisdom and trust in His response.
  • Hebrews 4:16: Assurance that we can come boldly to God’s throne of grace to find help in time of need.

Remember, Bible study involves exploring the verses in context, considering related passages, and seeking personal application. May this study deepen your understanding of Luke 11:10 and encourage you in your prayer life and relationship with God.
