Luke 11:14

Posted on 18 May at 14:40

“And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered.”

Context:Luke 11:14 is part of a larger narrative in the Gospel of Luke, where Jesus is performing various miracles and teaching his disciples. In this particular verse, Jesus is casting out a demon from a man who was unable to speak. After the demon is expelled, the man regains his ability to speak, which astonishes the people who witnessed the miracle.

The Power of Jesus over Demons:This verse showcases the authority and power of Jesus over evil spirits. Jesus’ ability to cast out demons demonstrates his divine authority and his victory over the forces of darkness. It highlights his role as the Son of God, who has the power to liberate individuals from the bondage of demonic oppression.

The Significance of the Man’s Inability to Speak:The fact that the demon caused the man to be “dumb” or unable to speak symbolizes the oppressive and silencing nature of demonic influence. The demon not only afflicted the man physically but also limited his ability to communicate and express himself. The restoration of his speech represents the freedom and liberation that Jesus brings, not only physically but also spiritually and emotionally.

The Reactions of the People:The verse mentions that the people were amazed and wondered at the miracle performed by Jesus. This reaction highlights the impact of witnessing the power of God firsthand. The people recognized that Jesus had authority over the demonic realm, and they were astonished by his ability to deliver the afflicted man from the demon’s control.

  • Application:Luke 11:14 reminds us of the authority and power of Jesus over all spiritual forces of evil.
