Acts 3:16

Listen to this article

“And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.”

Acts 3:16 is part of the narrative in the Book of Acts where Peter and John encountered a lame man who was begging for alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple in Jerusalem. In response to the man’s request, Peter said, “Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have, give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk” (Acts 3:6, KJV).

Let’s break down Acts 3:16 to understand its significance:

“And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong”: The verse emphasizes the power of the name of Jesus Christ. Peter attributes the healing of the lame man to the faith in Jesus’ name. The faith of Peter and John, coupled with the faith of the man who was healed, resulted in the miraculous restoration of strength and mobility.

“Whom ye see and know”: Peter points out that the people witnessing the healing had firsthand knowledge of the previously lame man. This served as evidence of the reality and power of the miracle that had taken place.

“Yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness”: The verse highlights that it was not Peter or John’s personal power or ability that brought about the healing. Instead, it was faith in Jesus and the faith that Jesus imparted to them that brought about the complete restoration and soundness of the lame man.

“In the presence of you all”: The healing took place publicly, in the presence of a crowd of people. This further underscored the impact and significance of the miracle, as it was witnessed by many, causing awe and amazement among the onlookers.

Overall, Acts 3:16 demonstrates the authority and power of the name of Jesus Christ, the importance of faith, and the role of believers in being conduits of God’s healing and transformative work in the world. It also serves as a testimony to the early church’s proclamation of Jesus as the source of salvation and miraculous power.
