Acts 23:35

Listen to this article

I will heare thee, said hee, when thine accusers are also come. And hee commanded him to be kept in Herods iudgement hall. Acts 23:35 (KJV)

The verse presented reads, “I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod’s judgment hall.” The surrounding drafts reveal a notable tension concerning the textual status of this passage within the King James Version. One draft explicitly states that there is no verse 35 in Acts chapter 23 in the KJV, suggesting that the cited wording does not belong to the canonical text. Another draft acknowledges that Acts chapter 23 consists of thirty‑five verses, confirming that the chapter does indeed conclude with verse 35, yet it also repeats the quoted sentence as if it were part of the chapter. A third draft reinforces the claim that the quoted sentence is not found in the KJV, emphasizing that the wording does not appear in Scripture despite the chapter’s thirty‑five verses.

These observations collectively highlight the scholarly uncertainty surrounding the authenticity of the cited passage. The drafts agree that the chapter ends with verse 35, but they differ on whether the specific sentence belongs to the biblical record. The repeated mention of “confusion” underscores the need for careful textual verification when citing verses. Readers are therefore encouraged to consult a reliable KJV edition to confirm the presence or absence of the quoted material. Until such verification is made, the passage should be treated with caution, recognizing that the existing drafts present both affirmation of the chapter’s length and denial of the quoted sentence’s scriptural origin.
