Acts 26:28

Posted on 18 May at 14:34

“Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.”

Historical Context:It is important to understand the historical context surrounding this verse. King Agrippa was a ruler in the Herodian dynasty, appointed by the Roman Empire to govern parts of Judea. Paul, on the other hand, was a prominent apostle who traveled extensively to spread the Gospel message.

Paul’s Defense:In this particular scene, Paul stands before King Agrippa and makes a compelling case for his innocence, detailing his journey from being a zealous persecutor of Christians to becoming an ardent follower of Christ. He recounts his encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus, which resulted in his conversion. Paul passionately shares his personal testimony and explains the significance of Jesus’ resurrection and His call to repentance and faith.

Agrippa’s Response:Upon hearing Paul’s account, King Agrippa, who was well-versed in Jewish matters, recognizes the power and persuasiveness of Paul’s words. He responds with the statement, “Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.” It is important to note that Agrippa’s response does not indicate that he fully embraces Christianity at that moment. Instead, it conveys that Paul’s defense was compelling enough to cause Agrippa to seriously consider the claims and teachings of Christianity.

Significance and Application:Acts 26:28 reveals the impact of Paul’s testimony and the persuasive nature of the Gospel message. It highlights the power of personal testimony in reaching others with the truth of Jesus Christ. Agrippa’s response also reflects the tension between belief and unbelief, as well as the importance of making a personal decision about faith.

  • The power of personal testimony:Like Paul, we should be willing to share our own experiences and encounters with Christ, which can have a profound impact on others and draw them closer to God.
  • The significance of persuasion:Paul’s defense demonstrates the importance of presenting a well-reasoned, compelling case for the Christian faith. We should be prepared to engage in respectful and persuasive conversations, helping others understand the truth of the Gospel.
  • The need for personal decision:Agrippa’s response reminds us that ultimately, each person must make an individual decision regarding faith in Christ. We can present the message, but the response lies in the hands of the hearer.

In summary, Acts 26:28 captures a moment of intense dialogue between Paul and King Agrippa. The verse emphasizes the power of personal testimony, the significance of persuasion, and the need for personal decision in matters of faith.
