Romans 8:37
Nay in all these things wee are more then conquerours, through him that loued vs. Romans 8:37 (KJV)
The verse belongs to the broader passage of Romans 8 where the apostle Paul declares the profound assurance and security believers possess in Christ Jesus. To grasp its meaning we read the surrounding context, Romans 8:35‑39 (KJV):
“35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Paul lists the hardships that may confront believers—tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, even the sword. Yet he assures that these trials cannot defeat the believer’s standing. To be “more than conquerors” means possessing a victory that exceeds mere triumph; it is an overwhelming, inexhaustible victory secured not by human effort but by the love of God manifested in Christ.
The phrase “through him that loved us” points to the sacrificial love of Christ, demonstrated in His death and resurrection. That love empowers believers to overcome every challenge, sustaining and strengthening them so that nothing—whether death or life, angels or principalities, present or future circumstances, height or depth, or any created thing—can separate them from God’s love.
Paul’s emphasis in verses 38‑39 underscores the eternal, unchanging, and unconditional nature of this love. It is a love that remains constant amid every circumstance.
In summary, Romans 8:37 reminds believers that they are not merely conquerors but “more than conquerors” through Christ’s love. This profound victory transcends any difficulty or trial, assuring that nothing can separate them from the unending love of God found in Jesus Christ.
