“But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory.”

Context:This verse is part of the Apostle Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, where he addresses various issues and provides guidance to the church in Corinth. In this particular verse, Paul discusses the wisdom of God and its mysterious nature.

Wisdom of God:Paul begins by highlighting that the wisdom he and his fellow apostles speak of is the wisdom of God. The wisdom of God refers to divine knowledge and understanding that comes from God Himself. This wisdom surpasses human wisdom and understanding and is rooted in God’s perfect knowledge and insight.

Mystery:Paul emphasizes that this wisdom of God is shrouded in mystery. In biblical terms, a mystery is not something that is meant to remain hidden but rather something that was once concealed but has now been revealed. In this context, the mystery is the plan of salvation through Jesus Christ, which was concealed but has been made known through the revelation of God.

Hidden Wisdom:The wisdom of God that Paul speaks of is the hidden wisdom. It was not known or understood by human beings until it was revealed by God. This hidden wisdom is the knowledge of God’s redemptive plan through Jesus Christ and the gospel.

God’s Ordination:Paul emphasizes that this hidden wisdom was ordained by God before the world was created. It was part of God’s eternal plan and purpose. God, in His infinite wisdom, had already determined the course of human history and the means by which He would redeem mankind.

Our Glory:The purpose of God’s hidden wisdom is for our glory. The ultimate goal of God’s plan of redemption is to bring glory to Himself and to transform believers into the likeness of His Son, Jesus Christ. Through the revelation of this hidden wisdom and our acceptance of it, we can experience the glory and blessings of God.
