2 Corinthians 9:8

Listen to this article

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.”

1. Context: The book of 2 Corinthians is a letter written by the apostle Paul to the church in Corinth. In this particular chapter, Paul is addressing the topic of giving generously and cheerfully to support the needs of others, specifically for a collection that was being taken for the believers in Jerusalem who were facing hardships.

2. God’s Abounding Grace: The verse begins with the affirmation that God is able to make all grace abound toward believers. Grace, in this context, refers to God’s unmerited favour, love, and provision. It is not limited or scarce but abounds abundantly. God’s grace is a powerful and overflowing force that He can pour out upon His people.

3. Sufficiency in All Things: The verse continues by expressing the purpose of God’s abundant grace. As believers, we are assured that we will always have all sufficiency in all things. This means that God’s grace is more than enough to meet our every need. It encompasses all areas of our lives, including material, emotional, and spiritual needs. God’s sufficiency is complete and comprehensive.

4. Abounding to Every Good Work: The verse concludes by stating that the purpose of God’s abounding grace and sufficiency is so that we may abound to every good work. This highlights the idea that God’s blessings are not meant to be hoarded or selfishly kept, but rather to be shared and used for the benefit of others. As recipients of God’s grace, we are called to be channels of His goodness and blessings, actively engaging in good works and acts of love toward others.
