2 Thessalonians 1:7

Listen to this article

“And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels.”

Context: The book of 2 Thessalonians was written by the Apostle Paul to the church in Thessalonica. The believers in Thessalonica were undergoing persecution and facing various challenges. In this particular verse, Paul reassures the believers that they will find rest and relief from their troubles when Jesus is revealed from heaven.

Certainly! Here’s a Bible study on 2 Thessalonians 1:7 (KJV):

“To you who are troubled”: The Thessalonian believers were experiencing persecution and hardship because of their faith. This verse speaks to their specific situation, but it also applies to believers who face trials and tribulations in general. It reminds us that in the midst of our troubles, we can find comfort and rest in Jesus.

“Rest with us”: Paul encourages the Thessalonians that they will find rest together with him and other believers. This highlights the importance of Christian fellowship and the support that believers can provide to one another during difficult times. The shared experience of faith and the assurance of Christ’s return can bring comfort and strength to those who are troubled.

“The Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven”: This refers to the future event of Jesus’ second coming, when He will return in power and glory. The promise of Christ’s return is a central theme in the New Testament, and it offers hope and encouragement to believers. It assures us that our present sufferings are temporary and that Christ will ultimately bring justice, peace, and restoration.

“With his mighty angels”: When Jesus returns, He will be accompanied by His mighty angels. This emphasizes the grandeur and power of Christ’s second coming. The presence of the angels serves as a reminder of the authority and sovereignty of Jesus as He establishes His kingdom.

Overall, 2 Thessalonians 1:7 reminds believers that in the midst of their troubles, they can find rest and comfort in Jesus. It encourages them to look forward to Christ’s second coming, when He will bring relief to the troubled and establish His eternal kingdom. It also emphasizes the importance of Christian fellowship and the support believers can provide to one another during challenging times.
