Listen to this article

“After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;”

Context:The book of Revelation was written by the apostle John while he was exiled on the island of Patmos. It is a prophetic book that reveals visions and messages concerning the end times and the ultimate victory of Christ. In Revelation 7, John sees a vision of a great multitude gathered before the throne of God and the Lamb.

A great multitude:John sees a vast number of people, so numerous that no one can count them. This multitude represents believers from all nations, tribes, peoples, and languages. It highlights the universal nature of God’s redemptive plan, including people from every corner of the earth.

Standing before the throne and the Lamb:The multitude is gathered in the presence of God and Jesus Christ, represented as the Lamb. This indicates that they are in the heavenly realm, enjoying the eternal worship and fellowship with God.

Clothed with white robes:The white robes symbolize purity, righteousness, and victory over sin and death. It signifies that these believers have been washed and made clean by the blood of Jesus Christ (Revelation 7:14). Through faith in Christ, they have received forgiveness of sins and have been declared righteous before God.

Palms in their hands:The palms in their hands likely represent victory, triumph, and celebration. In biblical times, palms were often used as symbols of joy and triumph, especially during festive occasions. The presence of palms indicates the joyful celebration of the redeemed who have overcome the trials and tribulations of the world through their faith in Christ.

Application:Revelation 7:9 encourages believers with the hope of a future where people from every nation and culture will gather before God’s throne in unity. It reminds us that God’s redemptive plan extends to people of all backgrounds, languages, and races. As believers, we should strive to share the gospel with people from all walks of life, recognizing that the good news of Jesus Christ is meant for everyone.
