Exodus 33:13

Posted on 13 May 2025
Listen to this article

Now therefore, I pray thee, If I haue found grace in thy sight, shewe mee now thy way that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people. Exodus 33:13 (KJV)

In Exodus 33, after the golden calf incident, God’s anger burned against the Israelites because of their idolatry and disobedience. In response, God withdrew His presence from the camp and told Moses that He would no longer accompany the people on their journey to the Promised Land (Exodus 33:1‑3). The people were distressed, and Moses set up the Tent of Meeting outside the camp, where he would meet with God (Exodus 33:7‑11). In the verse we study, Moses pleads with God to continue guiding and leading the nation. He acknowledges that he has found grace in God’s sight and asks that God show him the way so that he may know Him more fully and find grace again, while also urging God to consider the people as His own.

Moses recognises the significance of divine favour and grace in his life. He attributes every success and the guidance he has received to God’s mercy, reminding us that our abilities, opportunities, and achievements are rooted in God’s grace, not merely in our own effort.

He earnestly seeks God’s way, understanding that knowing God’s path and will is essential for effective leadership. This seeking involves prayer, Scripture study, and a willingness to follow divine direction in every decision.

Moses also expresses a deep desire for intimacy with God. He wants a relationship that goes beyond ritual or duty, a personal and heartfelt knowledge of the Almighty that fuels his leadership.

The passage highlights the weight of leadership and responsibility. Moses’ concern for the people demonstrates that true leaders must have a heart for those they lead and be ready to intercede before God on their behalf.

In summary, Exodus 33:13 teaches the importance of recognizing God’s grace, earnestly seeking His guidance, cultivating an intimate relationship with Him, and bearing the responsibility of leadership. May our study of this verse draw us nearer to God and equip us to lead and follow His divine will faithfully.
