Exodus 39:31

Listen to this article

“And they tied unto it a lace of blue, to fasten it on high upon the mitre; as the LORD commanded Moses.”

Exodus 39:31 is part of a passage describing the crafting of the priestly garments for Aaron and his sons, who were consecrated as priests to serve in the tabernacle before the Lord. This specific verse refers to the "mitre" (or turban) that the high priest wore on his head as part of his attire.

Obedience to God’s Commands:Throughout the book of Exodus, we see the emphasis on following God’s specific instructions to the letter. This verse highlights the meticulous attention to detail in the making of the priestly garments. It reminds us of the importance of obeying God’s commands in our own lives, even in seemingly small or insignificant matters.

The Use of Blue Lace:The mention of the blue lace stands out in this verse. Blue is often associated with heavenly or spiritual matters in the Bible. It can symbolize God’s presence, authority, and divinity. In this context, the blue lace on the mitre likely represents the holiness of the priestly office and their connection to God. As believers today, we are called to be set apart for God’s service and to remember His presence and authority in our lives.

Priestly Intercession:The high priest’s role was to intercede for the people before God. The mitre was a significant part of his attire, serving as a symbol of his office and the responsibility to mediate between God and the people of Israel. As Christians, we are called to be a "royal priesthood" (1 Peter 2:9), interceding for others in prayer and representing God’s grace and love to the world.

Attention to Worship and Ritual:The priestly garments were essential elements of Israel’s worship and the tabernacle service. They were designed to reflect the holiness and order of God’s presence among His people. In our worship and service to God, we should approach Him with reverence and care, acknowledging His holiness and following the patterns of worship He has established in His Word.

Unity and Cooperation:Throughout Exodus, we see how the various skilled artisans worked together to create the tabernacle and the priestly garments. Each person had a specific role, and their cooperation ensured that everything was made according to God’s plan. This teaches us the value of unity and working together in the body of Christ. We all have different gifts and callings, but when we come together in harmony, we can accomplish great things for God’s kingdom.

In summary, Exodus 39:31 provides us with a glimpse into the detailed instructions God gave for the priestly garments, emphasizing obedience, holiness, and the importance of worshiping and serving God according to His design. As we study and meditate on this verse, may we be encouraged to live lives that reflect our dedication to God, His authority, and His call to serve others in love.
