Exodus 39:35

Posted on 25 April 2025
Listen to this article

“And Moses did look upon all the work, and, behold, they had done it as the LORD had commanded, even so had they done it: and Moses blessed them.”

This verse is part of the description of the completion of the construction of the tabernacle, which was a portable dwelling place for God among the Israelites during their wilderness journey. Let’s break down this verse and explore its significance:

Moses’ Examination:The verse begins with “And Moses did look upon all the work.” After the skilled craftsmen and artisans completed the construction of the tabernacle, Moses carefully examined the work that was done. This shows Moses’ diligence and attention to detail as a leader and prophet appointed by God.

Obedience to God’s Command:The verse continues, “and, behold, they had done it as the LORD had commanded.” The significance of this statement lies in the fact that the Israelites followed God’s instructions precisely. They built the tabernacle according to the pattern and design that God had revealed to Moses during his time on Mount Sinai (Exodus 25:9). This highlights the importance of obedience to God’s word and the willingness of the Israelites to carry out His commands.

God’s Blessing:The verse concludes, “even so had they done it: and Moses blessed them.” Here, we see that Moses blesses the people for their faithful obedience in constructing the tabernacle as God commanded. This blessing from Moses may also be seen as a confirmation of God’s approval, as Moses acted as God’s mediator and representative among the people.

Obedience and Faithfulness:The completion of the tabernacle reminds us of the importance of obedience and faithfulness in carrying out God’s instructions. When we follow God’s commands and live in obedience to His word, we position ourselves to receive His blessings and approval.

Attention to Detail:Moses’ careful examination of the work demonstrates the significance of paying attention to details in serving God. Our commitment to doing things well and with excellence in His service reflects our reverence for God and His holiness.

Leadership and Blessing:Moses’ role as a leader and the one who blessed the people underscores the responsibility of leaders in blessing and affirming the faithfulness of those they lead. Leaders should encourage and affirm those under their care when they demonstrate obedience and dedication to God’s will.

The Tabernacle as a Symbol:The tabernacle itself is a powerful symbol of God’s presence dwelling among His people. Today, as believers, we are reminded that through Jesus Christ, God now dwells in our hearts by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). We are His temple, and our lives should reflect His presence through obedience and holiness.

In summary, Exodus 39:35 shows us the completion of the tabernacle and the faithfulness of the people in carrying out God’s commands. It highlights the importance of obedience, attention to detail, and the blessings that follow when we follow God’s will. As we study this passage, we are encouraged to walk in obedience and faithfulness, knowing that God’s presence is with us and that He blesses those who diligently seek Him.
