Exodus 39:37

Listen to this article

“And the pure gold candlestick, with the lamps thereof, even with the lamps to be set in order, and all the vessels thereof, and the oil for light.”

Context:This verse is part of the narrative in the book of Exodus, which describes the construction of the Tabernacle, a portable sanctuary used by the Israelites during their journey through the wilderness after their liberation from Egypt.

The Candlestick and Light: In this verse, the focus is on the pure candlestick, also known as the menorah, which was one of the essential items in the Tabernacle. The menorah was made of pure gold and had seven lamps that provided light inside the Tabernacle. Light symbolizes God’s presence, guidance, and enlightenment. The menorah reminds us of the importance of seeking God’s light in our lives to understand His will and walk in His ways.

Symbolism of the Menorah:The menorah’s design and use have profound symbolic meanings. Its seven branches represent completeness and perfection. It is a representation of God’s light shining in the darkness of the world. As Christians, we are called to be the light of the world, reflecting God’s love, grace, and truth in our interactions with others.

Set in Order:The verse mentions that the lamps were to be “set in order.” This emphasizes the importance of organization and orderliness in the worship of God. It is a reminder that God is a God of order and not chaos. In our lives and churches, we are encouraged to worship and serve God with reverence and in an organized manner, rather than in disorder.

All the Vessels and the Oil:The verse also mentions “all the vessels thereof, and the oil for light.” This highlights the completeness and thoroughness of the preparations for worship in the Tabernacle. Everything was provided and prepared according to God’s instructions. Similarly, in our Christian walk, we are called to be fully equipped with the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit to carry out His purposes.

Application:As believers, we can apply the principles from this verse in our daily lives. We are to be like the menorah, shining God’s light through our words and actions. Our lives should be organized and set in order as we worship and serve the Lord. We must be filled with the Holy Spirit, symbolized by the oil, to be effective witnesses for Christ in the world.
