Genesis 7:1

Posted on 6 July 2023
Listen to this article

“And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.”

Context:Prior to Genesis 7:1, God had observed the wickedness and corruption that had spread throughout the earth. However, Noah found favour in the eyes of God because he was a righteous man who walked with God. God chose Noah to be the vessel of salvation for himself, his family, and representatives of all living creatures.

God’s command to Noah:In Genesis 7:1, the Lord specifically addresses Noah and commands him to enter the ark. God acknowledges Noah’s righteousness, stating that He has seen Noah as righteous before Him in that particular generation. This indicates that Noah’s righteousness stood out amidst the prevailing wickedness of his time.

Noah’s obedience:Noah’s response to God’s command is seen in the subsequent verses. Genesis 7:5 says, “And Noah did according unto all that the Lord commanded him.” This obedience to God’s instructions demonstrated Noah’s faith, trust, and willingness to follow God’s plan, even when it seemed unusual or difficult.

The significance of Noah’s righteousness:Noah’s righteousness was a key factor in God’s choice to save him and his family from the impending flood. Righteousness, in this context, refers to Noah’s upright and blameless character before God. Noah’s righteousness involved his obedience to God’s commandments and his faith in God’s promises.
