Posted on 3 July 2024
Listen to this article

“A land which the LORD thy God careth for: the eyes of the LORD thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year.”

Context:The book of Deuteronomy is a record of Moses’ final speeches to the Israelites, preparing them to enter the Promised Land. In this verse, Moses is reminding the people of Israel about the faithfulness and watchful care of God over the land He has given them.

God’s care for the land:The verse begins by highlighting the Lord’s care for the land. God is not only concerned about His people but also about the place He has allotted to them. The Promised Land was a significant part of God’s covenant with Israel, and He desired to bless it abundantly.

God’s watchful eyes:The verse emphasizes that God’s eyes are always upon the land. This demonstrates God’s constant vigilance and attentiveness. It signifies that nothing escapes God’s notice, and He is intimately involved in every aspect of the land’s well-being.

God’s continuous presence:The phrase “from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year” indicates that God’s watchful eyes are on the land throughout the entire year. It conveys the idea of God’s perpetual presence and His commitment to sustaining and providing for the land.

Application for believers today:Although this verse specifically refers to the Promised Land and the Israelites, it carries a broader spiritual principle. As believers, we can take comfort in knowing that God is deeply concerned about our well-being. He watches over us, cares for us, and provides for our needs. Just as God was faithful to the Israelites, He remains faithful to His children today.

Trusting in God’s care:Reflecting on this verse, we are reminded to trust in God’s watchful care. We can bring our concerns, worries, and needs before Him, knowing that He is attentive and lovingly looks after us. We can find peace in the assurance that God is with us, guiding us through the seasons of our lives.

In conclusion, Deuteronomy 11:12 reminds us of God’s care for the land and His continuous watchfulness. It assures us of His faithful presence throughout the year. As believers, we can trust in God’s unwavering love and find comfort in His attentive care over every aspect of our lives.
