Deuteronomy 11:15

Posted on 3 July 2024
Listen to this article

“And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full.”

Context:Deuteronomy is the fifth book of the Old Testament, and it consists primarily of Moses’ speeches to the Israelites as they prepare to enter the Promised Land. In this particular chapter, Moses is reminding the people of the covenant and the blessings that come with obedience to God’s commandments.

God’s Provision:In Deuteronomy 11:15, God promises to provide grass in the fields for the Israelites’ cattle. This verse highlights God’s faithfulness and care for His people. The provision of grass is essential for the sustenance of their livestock, which in turn would provide food, resources, and livelihood for the Israelites themselves.

Physical and Spiritual Fulfillment:The verse not only emphasises the material provision of grass for the cattle but also implies spiritual fulfilment for the people. By providing for their needs, God demonstrates His loving-kindness and abundant provision. The imagery of eating and being full indicates satisfaction and contentment in both physical and spiritual aspects of life.

Obedience and Blessings:The promise of grass in the fields is tied to the obedience of the Israelites. In the preceding verses, Moses exhorts the people to diligently keep God’s commandments, walk in His ways, and love Him with all their hearts (Deuteronomy 11:13-14). The verse reminds the Israelites that obedience leads to God’s blessings, including the provision of sustenance for their cattle.

Lessons for Believers:Though this verse specifically addresses the Israelites, it carries broader lessons for believers today. It serves as a reminder that God is the ultimate provider, who cares for His people and meets their needs. It also underscores the importance of obedience to God’s commandments, as obedience opens the way for His blessings to flow into our lives.

In summary, Deuteronomy 11:15 highlights God’s provision for the Israelites by promising grass in their fields for their cattle. It teaches us about God’s faithfulness, His care for His people, the connection between obedience and blessings, and the need for gratitude and contentment in both physical and spiritual aspects of life.
