Deuteronomy 5:28

Listen to this article

“And the LORD heard the voice of your words when ye spake unto me; and the LORD said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken.”

This verse occurs after Moses recounted the events at Mount Sinai, where God revealed the Ten Commandments to the people of Israel. The verse starts with Moses addressing the Israelites, telling them that the Lord heard their words when they spoke to him. It emphasizes that God was attentive to their concerns and requests.

The latter part of the verse reveals that the Lord acknowledges the Israelites’ words and responds to them through Moses. God affirms that the people have spoken well and rightly. This indicates God’s approval and recognition of the Israelites’ acknowledgement of His authority and the importance of His commandments.

Now, let’s consider a few key points from this verse:

  • God’s attentiveness: The verse highlights the Lord’s attentive nature and His willingness to listen to the words of His people. This demonstrates God’s care and concern for His chosen people, and it reminds us that we can approach Him with our prayers, concerns, and requests, knowing that He hears and listens.
  • Divine affirmation: God acknowledges the Israelites’ words, stating that they have spoken well. This suggests that their response to God’s commandments was appropriate and pleasing to Him. It reveals the importance of recognising and affirming God’s authority in our lives and responding to His word with obedience and reverence.
  • God’s response through Moses: In this verse, God communicates His response to the people of Israel through Moses, their leader. This demonstrates the role of Moses as a mediator between God and the people. It also highlights the importance of God’s chosen leaders in conveying His messages and instructions to the community.
