Deuteronomy Chapter 7

Summery

In Deuteronomy 7, Moses continues his exhortation to the Israelites, reminding them of God’s covenant and the importance of obedience. He instructs them to utterly destroy the nations that currently inhabit the land they are about to possess, as these nations worship false gods and would lead the Israelites astray. God has chosen the Israelites as a special people, not because of their size or greatness, but simply out of His love and faithfulness to the promise made to their ancestors.

Moses warns the Israelites not to intermarry with these pagan nations, for it would lead them to worship foreign gods. They are to break down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, and burn their carved images. The Israelites are to remember that they are a holy people, set apart for God’s purposes.

Despite the impending battles and challenges they will face, Moses assures the Israelites that God will be with them, fighting on their behalf. They are not to fear their enemies, for the Lord will deliver them into their hands.

By obeying God’s commandments and statutes, the Israelites will receive His blessings, including fertility, prosperity, and protection from diseases. Moses emphasizes the importance of remembering God’s faithfulness and the covenant He made with them.
