Exodus 10:19

Listen to this article

“And the Lord turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one locust in all the coasts of Egypt.”

Context: Exodus 10 describes the eighth plague that God sent upon Egypt‑the plague of locusts. Pharaoh had refused to let the Israelites go, despite witnessing the devastating consequences of the previous plagues. The locusts covered the land of Egypt, destroying all the vegetation.

The Purpose of the Plague: The plagues in Exodus were not just random acts of judgment but were specifically designed to demonstrate God’s power and to bring about the release of the Israelites from slavery. Each plague was targeted at an Egyptian deity, revealing the superiority of Yahweh, the God of Israel, over the false gods of Egypt.

God’s Control over Nature: In this verse, we see God’s power and sovereignty displayed. The Lord turned a mighty strong west wind to remove the locusts from the land. This demonstrates God’s authority over nature and His ability to use natural elements to accomplish His purposes.

Red Sea: The locusts were cast into the Red Sea. The Red Sea plays a significant role in the Exodus narrative. It is the body of water that the Israelites would later cross on dry ground, escaping from the pursuing Egyptian army. The mention of the Red Sea in this verse foreshadows the future deliverance of the Israelites.

Complete Removal: The verse emphasizes that not a single locust remained in all the coasts of Egypt. This detail highlights the thoroughness of God’s actions. When God brings about a deliverance or removes a plague, He does so completely, leaving no trace behind.

Application: Exodus 10:19 reminds us of God’s power, control, and faithfulness. It teaches us that God is capable of bringing about complete deliverance in our lives. Just as He removed the locusts from Egypt, He can remove obstacles, challenges, and burdens from our path. It encourages us to trust in God’s sovereignty and rely on Him for our deliverance.

Overall, Exodus 10:19 displays God’s dominion over nature and His faithfulness in fulfilling His promises. It assures us that God is in control and capable of bringing about complete deliverance in our lives.
