Listen to this article

“And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,”

Exodus 16:11 is a short verse that serves as an introduction to a longer passage in the book of Exodus. To understand the significance of this verse, let’s explore the context and the events surrounding it.

The book of Exodus primarily focuses on the Israelites’ journey out of slavery in Egypt and their subsequent journey to the Promised Land. In chapter 16, the Israelites have been liberated from Egypt and are now wandering in the wilderness. They have been traveling for about a month and are beginning to face challenges, including scarcity of food.

In this particular verse, we see that the Lord speaks to Moses. Moses is the chosen leader of the Israelites, appointed by God to guide them out of bondage and into the land God had promised to their ancestors. Throughout the book of Exodus, God frequently communicates with Moses, giving him instructions and guidance for the people.

The significance of God speaking to Moses in this verse lies in the fact that it demonstrates the ongoing relationship between God and Moses. It shows that God is actively involved in the lives of His people and is attentive to their needs.

In the following verses (Exodus 16:12-15), God reveals His plan to provide food for the Israelites in the wilderness. He promises to send bread from heaven, called manna, which the Israelites are to gather each day. Through this miraculous provision, God demonstrates His care and sustenance for His chosen people.

The broader context of Exodus 16:11 and the subsequent verses in chapter 16 highlights God’s faithfulness, His willingness to provide for His people, and His desire for them to trust in Him. This passage also sets the stage for further tests and trials that the Israelites will face on their journey, as well as the lessons they will learn about obedience, faith, and reliance on God.

Summary:Exodus 16:11 marks the beginning of God’s communication with Moses regarding the provision of manna in the wilderness. It emphasizes the ongoing relationship between God and Moses and reveals God’s faithfulness and care for His people.
