Exodus 16:28

Listen to this article

“And the Lord said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?”

Exodus 16 is a chapter that recounts the events following the Israelites’ departure from Egypt.

After their liberation from slavery, the Israelites found themselves in the wilderness, and they began to complain about the lack of food.

In response to their grumbling, God provided manna, a miraculous bread‑like substance, to sustain them.

In verse 28, we witness God’s response to the people’s behaviour.

Here are some key points to consider:

  • Divine Expectations:God expected the Israelites to obey His commandments and laws. By asking Moses, “How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?” God expresses His disappointment in the people’s continual disobedience.
  • The Importance of Obedience:The question posed by God highlights the significance of obeying His commandments and laws. Obedience to God’s instructions was a crucial aspect of the Israelites’ relationship with Him. Their obedience demonstrated their trust and faith in God’s guidance and provisions.
  • Lessons for Us:Exodus 16:28 serves as a reminder to believers today of the importance of obedience to God’s commandments and laws. Just as the Israelites were called to obey, we, too, are called to follow God’s instructions and live according to His Word. Obedience is an essential aspect of our relationship with God and is evidence of our love for Him (John 14:15).
  • God’s Faithfulness:Despite the Israelites’ disobedience, God continued to provide for their needs and demonstrated His faithfulness. He provided manna daily, ensuring they had sustenance in the wilderness. This highlights God’s grace and mercy, even when His people fall short.

In summary:Exodus 16:28 reminds us of the importance of obedience to God’s commandments and laws. It emphasises the significance of following God’s guidance and demonstrates His faithfulness, even when we fail to fully comply. As believers, we should strive to obey God’s Word and seek His will in our lives.
