Exodus 16:6

Posted on 4 August 2023
Listen to this article

“Then Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt.”

Context:Exodus 16 records the events that took place shortly after the Israelites’ departure from Egypt. They had been traveling through the wilderness and began to grumble against Moses and Aaron because they were lacking food. In response to their complaints, God reveals His plan to provide for them by sending bread from heaven, known as manna.

Moses and Aaron’s statement:In verse 6, Moses and Aaron address the entire assembly of the children of Israel. They assure the people that in the evening, they will recognise and understand that it is the LORD who has brought them out of the land of Egypt.

Significance of the timing:By mentioning “even” or “evening,” Moses and Aaron highlight the specific time when the Lord’s provision would become evident to the Israelites. It suggests that God’s miraculous provision of manna would occur at night, and by morning, they would know that it was indeed the Lord who had rescued them.

God’s deliverance:The verse emphasises the divine intervention and deliverance of the Israelites from Egypt. It reminds the people that the Lord, Yahweh, is the one who initiated their liberation and that He would continue to care for them even in the wilderness.

Trust and faith:This verse encourages the Israelites to trust in God’s faithfulness and to have faith that He will provide for their needs. It serves as a reminder that their journey is not solely dependent on their own efforts but on God’s guidance and provision.

Application for believers today:Exodus 16:6 can inspire Christians to reflect on their own journeys of faith. It reminds us that God is the one who leads, provides, and delivers us from various challenges and circumstances. Just as the Israelites were called to trust in God’s faithfulness, we are also called to have faith in Him and rely on His guidance in our lives.

In summary, Exodus 16:6 highlights the declaration of Moses and Aaron to the Israelites that they will recognise God’s deliverance in the evening. This verse underscores the importance of trusting in God’s provision and faithfulness throughout the journey of faith. It serves as a reminder that God is the ultimate source of deliverance and sustenance for His people.
