Exodus 16:8

Posted on 4 August 2023
Listen to this article

“And Moses said, This shall be, when the Lord shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that the Lord heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against the Lord.”

Context:The book of Exodus records the story of the Israelites’ deliverance from slavery in Egypt and their journey toward the Promised Land. In this particular passage, the Israelites are in the wilderness shortly after their departure from Egypt. They have been complaining about their lack of food and are expressing their frustrations to Moses and Aaron.

Murmurings and God’s Provision:The Israelites were grumbling against Moses and Aaron, but Moses makes it clear that their complaints were ultimately directed at the Lord. Despite their complaints, God heard their murmurings and promised to provide food for them in the form of flesh in the evening and bread in the morning.

God’s Faithfulness:This passage highlights God’s faithfulness to His people. Despite their complaints and lack of trust, God still provided for their needs. He didn’t abandon them in the wilderness but demonstrated His care and concern for them. It shows that even when we doubt or complain, God remains faithful and provides for us.

Lessons for us:The Israelites’ murmuring against God serves as a reminder for us today. Often, we may find ourselves complaining or grumbling in difficult situations. However, this passage teaches us the importance of trusting in God’s faithfulness and provision. It’s a reminder that our complaints and doubts should be directed to God, seeking His guidance and provision, rather than expressing discontentment or frustration towards others.

Gratitude and Trust:The passage also invites us to cultivate an attitude of gratitude and trust. Instead of murmuring and complaining, we should approach God with gratitude for what He has already provided and trust that He will continue to meet our needs. Gratitude and trust help us to focus on God’s faithfulness and shift our perspective from negativity to a mindset of thankfulness.

In summary, Exodus 16:8 reminds us of God’s faithfulness and provision for His people, even in the face of their complaints. It encourages us to trust in God’s care, approach Him with gratitude, and refrain from murmuring or complaining.
