Exodus 35:19

Posted on 27 May 2025
Listen to this article

“The cloths of service, to do service in the holy place, the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest’s office.”

Context:The book of Exodus records the events following the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt. At this point, Moses has received the instructions for constructing the Tabernacle, which is a portable sanctuary that will serve as a place of worship and the dwelling place of God’s presence among His people.

Key Points and Lessons from Exodus 35:19:

Cloths of Service:The verse mentions “cloths of service” which refers to the various items and fabrics used for specific roles and functions within the Tabernacle. These were not ordinary garments but specially designated items for serving in the holy place.

Lesson: Just as the Israelites had distinct garments for service in the Tabernacle, as Christians, we are called to be set apart and ready for service in God’s Kingdom. We are to put on the “cloths of service,” which represent righteousness, humility, and dedication to God’s work.

Holy Garments for Aaron the Priest:The verse also talks about the holy garments specifically made for Aaron, the high priest, who was appointed to intercede on behalf of the people and represent them before God.

Lesson: The significance of Aaron’s holy garments reminds us of the importance of purity and holiness in our approach to God. As believers, we are called to be a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9), and our lives should reflect holiness, integrity, and devotion to God as we represent Him to the world.

Garments for Aaron’s Sons:Besides Aaron, his sons were also given garments to minister alongside him as priests. This highlights the importance of generational faithfulness and passing on the legacy of serving God to future generations.

Lesson: Our faith in God should not end with us; it should be passed on to our children and the next generation. We must take responsibility for nurturing and guiding the younger members of our families and communities in their walk with God.

Ministering in the Priest’s Office:The purpose of these garments and service was to enable Aaron and his sons to fulfill their priestly duties in the Tabernacle, offering sacrifices, interceding for the people, and maintaining the holy space.

Lesson: Just as Aaron and his sons had a specific role and function in the Tabernacle, God has a unique purpose and calling for each of us in His Kingdom. We should seek to identify and fulfill our roles faithfully, using our gifts and talents to serve God and others effectively.

Overall, Exodus 35:19 teaches us about the importance of consecration, holiness, and dedication in our service to God. It also emphasizes the significance of passing on our faith and dedication to future generations. As we put on the “cloths of service” and minister in our respective callings, we can experience a deeper connection with God and fulfill His purposes for our lives.
