Exodus 36:1

Posted on 27 May 2025
Listen to this article

“Then wrought Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise-hearted man, in whom the Lord put wisdom and understanding to know how to work all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary, according to all that the Lord had commanded.”

This verse is part of the larger context of the book of Exodus, which describes the story of the Israelites’ deliverance from slavery in Egypt, their journey through the wilderness, and the establishment of the tabernacle as a place of worship and dwelling for God’s presence among them.

Bezaleel and Aholiab:These two individuals were appointed by God and were filled with the Holy Spirit’s wisdom and understanding. They were gifted artisans who played a crucial role in the construction of the tabernacle. God’s choice of skilled craftsmen emphasizes the importance of using our talents and abilities for His purposes.

Wise-hearted individuals:The verse mentions that all the workers involved in building the tabernacle were “wise-hearted.” In biblical language, “wisdom” often refers to a skillful application of knowledge and understanding, especially in a way that aligns with God’s will. This highlights the significance of having a heart devoted to God and His work.

Work for the service of the sanctuary:The main purpose of the construction was to create a sanctuary where God could dwell among His people. This indicates God’s desire to be in a close relationship with His chosen people and their obedience in fulfilling God’s commands to build the sanctuary.

Divine empowerment:The ability and skill to carry out the work did not come solely from the workers’ natural talents but were also a result of God’s direct intervention. The Lord bestowed wisdom and understanding upon them, signifying that all our talents and abilities ultimately come from God, and He equips us for His service.

Giftedness and Calling:Bezaleel and Aholiab were chosen by God for specific tasks. This reminds us that God gifts each of us with unique abilities and talents. It’s essential to identify our gifts and use them for God’s glory and the service of others.

Wise and Devoted Heart:The verse highlights the value of having a wise and devoted heart. When we seek God’s wisdom and dedicate ourselves to His purposes, we become vessels through which God can work and achieve His plans.

Obedience to God’s Commands:The workers followed God’s instructions precisely and carried out the construction accordingly. As believers, we should be diligent in obeying God’s Word and following His guidance in our lives.

Divine Enablement:We are not left to fulfill God’s purposes on our own. Like Bezaleel and Aholiab, we can rely on God’s empowerment through the Holy Spirit to accomplish tasks beyond our natural abilities.

Overall, Exodus 36:1 serves as a reminder that God calls and equips His people to serve Him and fulfill His purposes. When we offer our talents, wisdom, and hearts in devotion to God, He can accomplish great things through us for His glory and the benefit of others.
