Exodus 36:2

Posted on 25 April 2025
Listen to this article

“And Moses called Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise-hearted man, in whose heart the LORD had put wisdom, even every one whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it.”

Context:The book of Exodus is the second book of the Bible and primarily focuses on the story of the Israelites’ deliverance from slavery in Egypt, led by their prophet and leader, Moses. The events in this verse take place during the time when the Israelites were in the wilderness and constructing the tabernacle, a portable sanctuary where they would worship and seek God’s presence.

Divine Appointment:In this verse, we see that Moses calls upon two individuals, Bezaleel and Aholiab, along with other skilled and wise-hearted people, to undertake the work of constructing the tabernacle. The key point to note here is that their appointment was not random or based on human judgment alone; rather, it was divinely orchestrated. The verse explicitly mentions that the LORD had put wisdom in their hearts. This shows that God equips and anoints individuals with specific talents and abilities to accomplish His purposes.

Application:As believers, we can find encouragement in knowing that God has uniquely gifted each one of us for His service. Our skills and abilities are not coincidental but are part of God’s divine plan. We should seek to use these talents for His glory and the building up of His kingdom.

  • Willing Hearts:It is noteworthy that Moses didn’t just call skilled craftsmen; he called “every one whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it.” This highlights the importance of willing and eager hearts in serving the Lord. The construction of the tabernacle was a significant undertaking, and it required not only skill but also dedication and devotion to God’s work.
  • Application:When God calls us to a task, He looks not only at our abilities but also at our willingness to obey and serve. We should have hearts that are open and ready to respond to God’s call, whether it be in big or small ways. Our enthusiasm for God’s work and our willingness to participate are pleasing to Him.
  • Unity and Collaboration:The construction of the tabernacle was not a one-person show. Moses collaborated with various individuals who possessed different skills. Bezaleel and Aholiab were specifically appointed as lead craftsmen, but they worked alongside other wise-hearted men.
  • Application:This highlights the importance of unity and teamwork within the body of Christ. Each member has unique gifts and talents, and when we come together to use them harmoniously, the results can be remarkable. Cooperation and mutual support are essential for the success of any endeavor for God’s kingdom.
  • Stirred by God:Lastly, the verse emphasizes that the hearts of these individuals were stirred up by the Lord Himself. This reminds us that God is actively involved in our lives and can prompt us to take specific actions or engage in certain works that align with His purposes.
  • Application:It is crucial for us to remain sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit in our lives. God may nudge us to step out of our comfort zones and participate in His work, which might lead to blessings and growth in our relationship with Him.

In conclusion, Exodus 36:2 teaches us about God’s divine appointment of skilled individuals for His work, the importance of willing hearts, the significance of unity and collaboration, and the leading of the Holy Spirit in our lives. As we study and meditate on this verse, may we seek to apply these principles in our own lives and service to God.
